Open Forum Workshop 4 – September 19th, 2018
“Structural Modeling with LithoTect Software”
Instructor: Catalina Luneburg, PhD
This workshop focusses on structural restoration and modeling techniques using LithoTect Software. Participants will learn about section balancing, different restoration techniques such as backstripping, time-step restorations, decompaction and isostacy, fault prediction etc.
The workshop is designed as an open topic forum for new and expeienced LithoTect users either interested in learning how to create and/or validate balanced geologic sections using LithoTect or how to apply LithoTect tools for their specific geologic environments and challenges. Several examples from different tectonic scenarios are used to illustrate the different tools and methods. Participants are also encouraged to submit their own sections before the workshop so they can be addressed during the workshop.
Open Forum Workshop 3 – September 18th, 2018
“Validating your section through Balancing and Restoration”
Instructor: Catalina Luneburg, PhD
This workshop introduces basic concepts of section balancing and restoration in order to improve geologic interpretations. With simple methods and manual tools sections can be validated as to the plausibility and quality of interpretation based on seismic, well and other data.
Workshop participants will learn how to apply manual techniques of fault prediction, hangingwall geometry prediction, quick restorations and balancing tools and tricks that not only illustrate potential problems in interpretation but also allow to correct these problems.
Large part of the workshop is hands-on, using examples from extensional as well as compressional geologic environments. Participants are encouraged to bring their own sections for discussion and ideas.
Workshop 2 – May 10th, 2018
“Trap Integrity; Basic Best Practices before Drilling”
Instructor: John Karlo, PhD
The workshop lays out some of the basic best practices regards prospect evaluation with the specific focus on the integrity of the trap. Workshops learnings will help participants to validate the assessment of trap risk and of retained hydrocarbon columns.
The workshop is intended to be a survey that gives a solid “awareness” into different topics that are grouped together based on common and basic errors seen frequently in Quality Assurance reviews. The workshop is best followed up with more detailed training in specific topics.
Workshop 1 – May 8th, 2018
“Volumes and Risks Assessment for Conventional and Unconventional Plays and Prospects”
Instructor: Alexei Milkov, PhD
The workshop discusses the current best practices to transform qualitative geological descriptions of plays and prospects into technically robust quantitative success-case and risked volumetric models. Obtained learnings will help participants to evaluate geological probability of success (PoS) for exploration plays, segments, prospects, wells and portfolios and to assess the range of petroleum volumes in exploration projects. Examples and case studies come from both conventional and unconventional plays, prospects and wells around the world.
The workshop is an “awareness” introduction for a 3-day course where participants become skillful in volumes and risks assessment through well-illustrated lectures, numerous hands-on exercises and active class discussions.
